Flossing Tool Design Project
As the leader of a team of four, the goal of this project was to improve upon a product that works but is badly designed. We participated in collaborative CAD design of its components and packaging through Onshape, focused on Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA), and producing engineering documentation suitable for manufacturing evaluation. Our team brainstormed for project ideas and we settled on developing a new device for flossing as currently it is a process that can be uncomfortable, difficult, unhygienic and even wasteful to many.
We reiterated our design numerous times to improve comfort, usability, reliability of the device and also to reduce cost for tooling and manufacturing.
Engineering Drawings
We produced engineering drawings for all components suitable for injection molding and machining for manufacturers. Here is a sample of the final engineering drawings produced for one of the components, the traveling case.
Completed Working Prototype
I printed our final design though SLA printing and the device is able to function as intended.
